[KAIJU], monster in Japanese. Through decades of Japanese Si-Fi history, Japanese Kaiju has developed a culture of it’s own.
Within the Designer Toy Scene, toy artists have drawn inspiration from countless sources. Many Japanese artists found their muse in Kaiju culture, creating original monsters with a distinct Japanese flair. These designs have become known as Neo Kaiju.
As the Designer Toy scene grows in popularity, these Kaiju creations have become highly sought after. Collectors search high and low to attain these amazing Kaiju, with the hopes of adding them to their own collection. The thrill of Kaiju Hunting has begun…
Over the course of this past year, Paradise has worked with 6 renown Japanese toy artists, Dan, Dehara Yukinori, Konatsu, Shoko Nakazawa, T9G and Uamou, to conceptualise this series. After much anticipation, we’re now ready to unveil “Kaiju Hunting”!
The first part of the project, “Kaiju Hunting” exhibition will take place in the Special Area A at Taipei Toy Festival (TTF) 2017, and is supported by TTF organizer Monster Taipei. The exhibition will headline the 6 aforementioned Japanese artists, and feature their collective works of over a decade, including sold out pieces, original sketches and designs, and even never before seen prototypes.
“Kailu Hunting” is a project by Paradise, made by Kaiju lovers, for Kaiju lovers. We look forward to seeing you at Special Area A this coming TTF!
KAIJU HUNTING PROJECT 始動！
Taipei Toy Festivalの主催者『Monster Taipei』の協力を得て、
台北のトイブランド『Paradise Toy』が水面下で進めてきたプロジェクト、
『Kaiju Hunting』が、2017台北トイフェスティバルより始動します！
Paradise Toyから発表になったプロジェクトの概要を以下にご紹介します。
日本語では「怪獣」と表記されます。怪獣の文化は、何十年という特撮の歴史を経て、既に独特な文化として成立していると言えます。十数年前にアート・トイが流行し始め、日本のアーティストたちは伝統的なKAIJU文化からインスピレーションを得て、西洋のキャラクターデザインロジックと異なる日本独自のオリジナルKAIJUの道を拓きました。そうして、日本の独自性が盛り込まれた怪獣キャラクターを、海外のメディアは「NEO KAIJU」もしくは「KAIJU」と呼ぶようになりました。
アート・トイの文化が日々注目を集めている中、KAIJUの創作も、自然にファンのコレクション対象になってきています。ファンたちが様々な方法を通して好きなKAIJUを一つ一つコレクションに入れて行く様子は、まるで、ハンターがKAIJUを狩りに行く姿のようであるとも言えます。
今回Paradiseは、DAN、Dehara Yukinori、Konatsu、Shoko Nakazawa、T9G、UAMOUの６名のアーティストを招き、1年間以上の時間をかけて企画し、Kaiju Hunting Projectという企画を正式にスタートしました。多くの見どころがあるこの企画の中、先んじて、TTFの主催者Monster Taipeiからの招待と協力による合同展覧会”Kaiju Hunting”を開催します。６名のアーティストが、過去10年間の創作品や、かつて発売した絶版商品や創作ラフや原型など、これまでに発表したことのない作品を、TTFの特別展示エリアAにて披露します。
“Kailu Hunting”はParadiseから全てのKaijuファンに捧げる企画です。TTF特別展示エリアAでの展覧会を通して、日本アーティストの創作過程をもっと理解していただけることを願い、みなさまのご来場をお待ちしております。
